FAQs

Q. Why choose a log homes versus a conventional home?
A. A log home has many advantages over a conventional home from an aesthetics stand-point. Both homes can be designed to meet the lifestyle of each family's needs. The log home has a long heritage of providing many years of shelter for the pioneer as well as today's homeowner. A log home will provide you with the warmth of logs and allow you to come home to a vacation-like surrounding every day that is a great escape from your busy lifestyle.

Q. What types of log homes are offered?
A. There are three different types of log homes. The first is a "True Half Log" system that allows you to use the modern-day conveniences of a conventional building system with several types of log profiles. The second is a milled, full log system that has a uniform look and can be built using several different corner styles and pre-cut systems. The third is a hand-crafted home that is fully assembled at the factory and is often times custom-crafted to the customer's lifestyle.

Q. What's included in the package?
A. This may vary based on each individual's needs. The package can be inclusive of all dry-in components, from the roof system shingles down to the sub-floor systems. including all doors, windows, wall framing and trim materials. This would be considered a complete weathertight package. The homeowner will be responsible for all other components such as plumbing, electrical, floor coverings, fireplaces, cabinets and all appliances.

Q. What are my design options?
A. Our company has a design team that will help you walk through the design process. You can use a standard floor plan or you will have access to our on-staff architect who will be able to take your ideas from dream to reality on your property.

Q. What are the costs of log homes?
A. Building costs vary from each region of the country, thus making it difficult to set a standardized price to build a home. The best way to prepare for this phase of your planning is to determine your own personal budget and have one of our representatives help you estimate your home from the package standpoint. The next step will be to locate a local builder to get some additional answers regarding local building costs and upgrades that you may want to incorporate into your design.

Q. How should I determine my home site and design?
A. We offer to you the service of our on-staff architect to help in this phase. Whether you choose the property first or the plan, we have the abilities to make your home a one-of-a -kind design to fit your lifestyle and property. We also offer you a layaway program for your home if you need to wait until the perfect piece of property is found.

Q. Do log homes shrink?
A. All wood moves as it cures. Our full log systems take in consideration the movement of the logs. We provide allowances in our packages to accommodate for this such as: post adjuster, thru-bolts, double jamb systems and interior wall allowances. Our "True Half Log Systems" will not be affected by this typical concern. This system uses our pre-built wall system with our half log coverage on the outside or in select rooms inside the home. This system offers all the benefits of conventional building.

Q. Is lending a problem with this type of home?
A. No. We have several lending institutions that we work with for securing these types of homes. Some of these firms are M&T Mortgage, Indy Mac Bank, and Log Lenders of America.

Q. What kind of wood is used?
A. All of our package use Northern white pine or Eastern white pine. Other timbers
can be used based on the preferences of the customer. We have access to all Western-type timbers for the big, Western look.

Q. What equipment do I need to rent to unload the products?
A. You will need to have on-site a mid-size crane to unload all the pre-built walls (interior and exterior) and all the trusses.

Q. How long will it take to unload and set the house?
A. With our Half Log System, it will depend on the size of the home, but in most cases, it should take about one day to set the walls inside and out on the first floor. If you have a two-story home, the second floor will consist of setting the sub-floor and exterior and interior walls along with the roof system. Keep in mind that prior to the system being delivered, you need to have the foundation and sub-floor installed. The full log homes will take as long as one week to install all the outside walls and second-floor timber system, timber frame roof system and roof dry-in with no shingles included.
